Uganda – Wild Frontiers – COVID-19 Information and Standard Operating Protocols

UPDATED 2ND NOVEMBER 2021 2021

In response to the current global COVID-19 outbreak, we have developed the following guidelines for travellers to Uganda for entry and exit requirements as well as the protocols for operation of all our camps, lodges, boats and safari services.

Due to the fluid situation on the ground in Uganda the requirements may be subject to change with very little notice and we therefore recommend you contact our reservations team for any further updates required before travel to Uganda is initiated.

BEFORE TRAVEL

Visas

All visitors to Uganda that require entry visas are required to apply and obtain them in advance of arrival via the on-line application service @ $55 each on the following link https://visas.immigration.go.ug/ at least 10 days before travel to Uganda is initiated.  Visas are no longer available on arrival.

COVID Entry Requirements

All Travellers to Uganda from all countries, will be required to produce a Covid-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of boarding their flight to Uganda. Please note that the 72 hours begins at the time the sample is collected for testing. All COVID-19 certificates for travellers MUST indicate TRAVEL as the intended purpose of test.

Arrivals, including tourists from all countries, even if fully vaccinated, will be required to take an additional mandatory PCR COVID-19 test upon arrival at Entebbe airport or other international arrival border point.

The additional arrival PCR test should be pre-booked and pre-paid by credit or debit card @ $30 {or equivalent in Ugandan Shillings currently approximately 110 000Ugx} per test via the following link https://arrivals.healthdesk.go.ug/ at least 5 working days prior to arrival.  Visitors should bring a printed copy of the acknowledgement with them to Uganda to present for verification upon arrival as well as emailing a copy to their safari consultant or our office on safari@wildfrontiers-uganda.com

Should the above link not allow you to make pre-payment this alternative link may be utilised https://covidpay.postbank.co.ug

Should it not be possible to pre-pay for the test on line, then payment in USD cash or Uganda Shillings equivalent will be required upon entry at the airport arrival area via the Post Bank kiosk facilities, but this will add additional time onto the entry process.

Visitors who have booked through Wild Frontiers and their agencies should register as a “tourist” and enter the following information for the contact information required: –

Name of Travel Agency/Company:                   G&C Tours Limited

Tour Operator Number (Registration no):         UTB/RTT/TO/2019/001213

Arrival Testing Process

Upon arrival, all passengers will be directed through the recommended Port Health procedure checks for COVID-19 and required to show physical proof of payment (a print out of the acknowledgement) for the mandatory PCR test.  From there they will be directed to the airport Tourist Testing Area for taking the swab sample. Once the test has been executed, and no visible signs of illness are detected, visitors will be directed through immigration and baggage collection points and onto the Tourism Lounge where representation officers will assist them with directing them to meet our representative at the airport arrival area, just outside the main building. Guests will be transferred to their pre-booked designated Entebbe hotel where they overnight or await (approximately 2-3 hours) for confirmation of a negative result (by Email or Whatsapp) before proceeding on their onward journey.

Should any visitor show signs of illness or receive a positive PCR test result they will be required to quarantine for 7 days at their own cost (in a designated hotel or hospital facility depending upon the situation) until they can be retested with a negative PCR test result received.

Departure Testing Process

All passengers departing from Uganda are required to present a printed negative PCR COVID19 test result issued within 72 hours prior to Departure from Uganda.  This is required even if the country you are traveling to does not require it.  If the destination country requires a test certificate of less than 72 hours, then this requirement would take priority.

A standard or express tests are possible but both require and payment in cash {USD or equivalent in local Ugandan Shillings currency} when executed. Additional fees may be incurred for larger groups who require sample collection at the same time as more medics are required.

Standard test @ $65 with results between 12-24 hours, can be arranged in Kampala/Entebbe area clinics or from the Entebbe hotel where guests are staying before departure. We advise a night in Entebbe/KLA and departure in the EVENING of the next day. Check in time is 4 hours prior to the departure flight time and the guests need the results before then.

Express test @ $150 with results between 4-6 hours can be arranged in Kampala/Entebbe area clinics or from the Entebbe hotel where guests are staying before departure.

On Safari tests

  • BUHOMA, BWINDI GORILLA AREA – There is an option of having the Standard PCR test taken at the Bwindi Hospital and then the sample transported back to Entebbe by road for processing & results. Costs will be @ $65 for the PCR test per person plus the cost of transportation facilitation @ $600
  • OTHER BWINDI GORILLA AREAS eg Kisoro it is possible to pay for a local medic to collect your Covid test sample. We can then arrange for a vehicle to transport the samples to Entebbe for testing. The cost will depend on the location and the group size but estimated cost would be @ $65 for the PCR test per person plus transport and medic facilitation at approximately $550
  • OTHER AREAS OF UGANDA – PCR test sample gathering in other areas of Uganda would be possible, but arranged on an individually quoted and arranged basis as the parameters can vary quite considerably depending upon the location and timing requirements.

Positive result on departure

Should a guest test positive when testing prior to departure from Uganda, they will be required to quarantine for 8-14 days. They can only take a second Covid test after 7 days and if they get a negative result, then they are allowed out after 8 days. Costs for the quarantine period differ per hotel, with some offering discounted rates for the quarantine period, so please speak to your consultant for further details should you require them.
